Caitlin Clark shocked the basketball world with a 19-point, 12-rebound, 13-assist triple double on Saturday against the New York Liberty.
Clark’s masterful performance led her Indiana Fever to a much-needed 83-78 win over Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu and the first-place Liberty, but Ionescu was far from impressed following the shocking upset loss.
She made sure that Clark and the Fever knew her true feelings about it in stark post-game comments.
“We played Liberty basketball, but understanding, this is their Super Bowl game,” Ionescu said to gathered media in a post-game press conference.
“We’ve beaten them three times this year already. We knew they were gonna come into this game really hungry, and it’s tough to beat a team four times.”
The three teammates’ stellar performances helped to reverse a worrisome trend that included three losses to the Liberty in a 17-day span last month, including two Liberty wins by more than 35 points.
Clark and the Fever may not have won a whole lot of the 5-foot-11 star Liberty guard Ionescu’s respect just yet, but they did manage to stop the bleeding in what was one of their best performances of the season so far, bar none.
