Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese has officially been awarded the BET’s Sportswoman of the Year, per Khristina Williams on X. Reese beat out a couple of extremely talented athletes in the women’s sports landscape.

Those names include A’ja Wilson, Coco Gauff, Flau’jae Johnson, JuJu Watkins, Naomi Osaka, Sha’Carri Richardson and Simone Biles.

According to the official BET description, the award is given to the “best and most successful female athlete of the previous year.”

Reese was selected with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft in April. She’s been a star for the Sky in her first year, averaging 13.5 points and 11.1 rebounds per game. The rookie out of LSU made her mark in the college realm and is now competing for the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year award.

During her final season with the Tigers, Reese averaged 18.6 points and 13.4 rebounds per game. While she was a star, Reese also made her mark off the hardwood.

She’s been one of the most talked about athletes in the past year, helping her gain over 535k followers on X and over 3 million on Instagram.

Reese secured the BET award on the same day she recorded the WNBA record for most consecutive double-doubles. She passed WNBA Hall-of-Famer Candace Parker, securing ten straight double-doubles in her rookie season. The 22-year-old star is having a historic day.
