Novak Djokovic was extremely upset at some of the Centre Court crowd booing him during his match against Holger Rune at Wimbledon. The Serbian accused the fans of using a Rune chant as an excuse for booing him. Due to this, top Journalist Jon Wertheim has slammed Nole for his on-court interview behavior.
Hundreds of fans greeted Rune’s points. They booed Djokovic for his errors. The Serbian was upset on several occasions, revealing it by giving it back. Nevertheless, he was unfazed throughout the match as he beat the Danish star convincingly 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. He went on to do his violin celebration for his daughter Tara, disregarding any cheers from the crowd.
He looked towards some section of the crowd as they continued booing him, despite standing by the microphone desperately waiting for his on-court interview to begin. When asked about the crowd, the Serbian went on to lash at them claiming he knows their tricks and that they were cheering Rune as an excuse to boo him.
Wertheim reacted to Djokovic’s accusation, claiming that Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal would never speak to fans that way.
Novak is a loved guy and not a nefarious figure, but when he says why am I not as well loved as Federer and Nadal, that's his problem. Would you see those two guys winning a match on the Centre Court and in these circumstances, spending a full minute having it out with a couple of hecklers, while giving the mic on the Centre Court of Wimbledon. In a million years, why will Federer and Nadal do something like that.Jon Wertheim said on Served with Andy Roddick podcast
Rune, World No.15, also disagreed with Djokovic’s claims. The Dane strongly felt that the fans were cheering him to win.
Novak Djokovic hopes to play Alex de Minaur in a friendly Centre Court in the quarterfinals
Novak Djokovic will face Australian Alex de Minaur with the hope that the Centre Court crowd will be friendly with him this time. Djokovic is no stranger to fans’ chants at Wimbledon. The Serbian beat Roger Federer at the 2019 finals despite fans boos.

He repeated the same feat at the 2022 semifinals, beating British star Cameron Norrie, then kissing the crowd despite their boos. After beating Rune, he thanked the fans who showed him respect.
To all the fans that have had respect and stayed here tonight, I thank you from the bottom of my heart and I appreciate it.Novak Djokovic said in his on court interview
Djokovic is attempting to win his eighth Wimbledon title just a few weeks after undergoing surgery. The Serbian is also a nine-time finalist at SW19.
