Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese is already one of the most beloved players in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), both for her basketball skills and her personality.
Reese is quickly becoming one of the best rebounders and most underrated scorers in the entire league, as evidenced by her latest statistical achievement.
Reese set a rookie record against the Dallas Wings that has cemented her place as one of the best young players in the league, even with her team’s relative lack of success so far on the season.
Reese became the first rookie in WNBA history to record seven consecutive double-doubles after she recorded 16 points and 18 rebounds in an 83-72 win over the Dallas Wings on Thursday.
The win pushed the Sky’s record to 5-9 on the season, a half game behind Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever in the Eastern Conference, and helped the Sky put a stop to their previous four-game losing skid.
“It’s super exciting for myself,” Reese said to ESPN. “I try to five myself some grace and tell myself I’m doing a good job, but I have so much more to grow, and I’m just excited to be in this league.”
Reese and the Sky will now prepare for the biggest game of the season against Clark and the Fever, scheduled for 4 p.m. ET on Saturday in the Windy City.
It could end up becoming not just the biggest game of the season for both teams, but arguably the biggest game in WNBA history and perhaps the biggest game between a pair of sub-.500 teams in sports history when it’s all said and done.
