There are serious concerns over how Clark has been treated since going No. 1 overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft in April.
The guard has taken some hard fouls, harsh trash talk, and unfair criticism over the course of her maiden campaign in the pros, and there have been claims of blatant targeting and jealousy. There has even been talk of players hating the former Iowa star because she’s white and straight.
The player, however, thinks everyone should stop worrying about her.
Speaking to The Washington Post on Thursday morning, Clark reminded fans of her love for basketball.
“I think it’s hard for people to remember, I just love playing basketball,” she told the publication. “This is my job. This is what I’m here for. I’m not here for all the other stuff.”
Hard fouls and trash talk are part of the game, and Caitlin Clark wants everyone to know she can handle everything being thrown at her.
WNBA Commissioner Addresses Caitlin Clark Being “Targeted”
WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert recently addressed the Caitlin Clark concern, pointing to the Indiana Fever’s win over the Washington Mystics last weekend.
“Did anyone say she was targeted in that game?’’ Engelbert said, per USA TODAY. “No, because everyone’s just looking for the outcome that they want.
“But it’s great fandom. It’s great discussion, and I think obviously we continue to look at or review games after the fact.’’
Meanwhile, Clark’s Fever will play another game against the Chicago Sky on Sunday in what’s expected to be quite a feisty affair, given the sparks that flew during their last matchup.
