The Indiana Fever have a tall task ahead of them. They’re set to play an experienced Phoenix Mercury squad on Saturday at 3:00 EST while they currently ride a two-game losing streak. Before the matchup, Fever guard Caitlin Clark spoke with the media, sharing a quick response on her WNBA idol.

The 22-year-old rookie out of Iowa made her opinion of Diana Taurasi extremely clear, stating, “That’s somebody I grew up idolizing and looking up to and wanting to be like one day.” She now gets the chance to check the ball with arguably the greatest women’s basketball player ever.

“That’s somebody I grew up idolizing and looking up to and wanting to be like one day. Obviously, she’s one of the greatest players our game has ever seen, the greatest scorer our game has ever seen, so for me, I’m excited; that’s fun. Kind of like a dream come true. You get to live out your dream while playing against the best,” said Clark via Desert Wave Media on X.

Clark and Taurasi will face off for the first time after a much-anticipated wait. The two have an online history with Taurasi’s previous “Reality is coming” comment, but Clark doesn’t seem too worried about any beef with what she’s called her idol.

Taurasi entered the league in 2004, while Clark was born in 2002. There’s a massive age gap between the two, but Taurasi is still wreaking havoc in the WNBA. At 42 years old, she’s averaging 16.5 points and 4.8 rebounds.

Clark shared extremely high praise for the WNBA veteran, mentioning the head-to-head with Taurasi will be a “dream come true.” All eyes will be on Clark and Taurasi as fans look to see if the established vet will pass the torch to the rookie.
