The Indiana Fever defeated the Atlanta Dream 91-79 on June 21, marking their fourth consecutive win. However, all eyes are already on the Fever’s upcoming matchup against the Chicago Sky.
With fans feeding off the rumored rivalry between Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Sky forward Angel Reese, ticket prices for their third matchup in the WNBA have skyrocketed.
Speaking to reporters after defeating the Dream, Clark addressed both the drastic price increase for tickets, along with a direct statement on competing against Reese.
“I’m pretty sure the only people that view this as a rivalry is all of you (media), Clark said. “For us, like it’s just a game of basketball. That’s what it is. If it’s gonna help move the game forward, that’s amazing.”
With all the attention, however, Clark is surprised the Fever-Sky matchup wasn’t moved to the United Center, which can seat 23,500 fans. The Wintrust Arena only holds 10,387 fans.
“I thought that would’ve be really good for the game,” the rookie added. “And really good for the women’s basketball fans in Chicago. So, maybe there was a conflict of some sort I don’t know about. Obviously, that’s a little bit above my pay grade.”
“But we’re excited,” Clark concluded. “I think the two prior matchups have really lived up to what everyone expected.” Indiana will look to notch their third consecutive win against the Sky on June 23.
