WNBA legend Candace Parker was recently asked about her advice for young women’s basketball athletes, particularly rookies Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark.
“I think taking ownership of your brand is number one… The earlier that you understand the business element of stuff and the more you ask questions, I’ve heard the more people want to help,” said Parker via SUMMER on X.
Parker went into detail on the business side of the WNBA. While Clark and Reese have already made themselves stars on and off the court, she wants them to know the importance of the business aspect of the sport.
Clark currently has brand deals with major companies like Gatorade and Nike. Reese has also inked some major off-court contracts with Reebok and Beats by Dre.
Parker is now retired from the WNBA, but she’s widely considered one of the greatest women’s basketball players to ever hit the hardwood. During her illustrious career in the league, she earned titles as a two-time WNBA MVP and three-time WNBA Champion.
She’s been around the game of basketball, so any advice she’s able to give to young stars like Reese and Clark should be of value.
