ESPN released their 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year rankings on Thursday morning.

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese Will Be Teammates for WNBA All-Star Game

Considering that the race is basically between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese at this point, there was a lot of intrigue about which of them two would take the top spot; especially because we’re now at the mid-way point of the regular season.

And while Clark held pole position in ESPN’s previous rankings, Reese has since overtaken her and now assumed the top spot.

ESPN writer Neil Paine made it clear how Clark must improve in order to regain the top spot in the next iteration of his rankings.

“The TL;DR is that she still turns over the ball far too often, hurting her overall offensive efficiency (even if some of those turnovers are because teammates are not anticipating her passes),” Paine wrote.

“And that her defense still needs work. But my main takeaway was that rookie WNBA guards have a lot more trouble adjusting to the league than bigs, which explains why similar talents such as Kelsey Plum and Sabrina Ionescu put up weak metrics in their first full seasons.”

If Clark’s turnovers and defense can improve in the season’s, second half, ROTY might be hers to lose.
