With the NBA season finale, there’s now a small window in the calendar year when very few sports are being played. The NBA enters the offseason, the NFL heads into training camp, the NHL season will soon conclude, and college sports won’t start for a few months.
There’s one major league still left on national television, and that’s the WNBA. Fans online complained after the Boston Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks 4-1 in the Finals. The WNBA took offense to fan comments, mentioning a dry season in sports.
“Sports officially over till after Labor Day,” said one fan.
“We play through October” replied the WNBA’s official X account, in a now deleted post.
It seems the league felt disrespected, but they quickly deleted their comment on the fan’s post. Their mysterious dismission of the comment may have been forced by the marketing or social media team, but the true reasoning has yet to be discovered.

The WNBA’s popularity has skyrocketed in the past year. Its elite players, like A’ja Wilson and Sabrina Ionescu, are paired with the most hyped rookie class the league has ever seen, which stars Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and Cameron Brink.
It’s unknown why the WNBA account deleted the post since they shared valid information, but all eyes will surely be on the women’s league for the next few months.
