Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark continues to rewrite WNBA history. During an 83–78 victory over the New York Liberty on July 6, she recorded the first-ever triple-double by a rookie in the WNBA. Her Fever teammate, Kelsey Mitchell, shared her honest reaction to the triple-double, dropping a blunt response to the WNBA record.

Mitchell explained that she wasn’t surprised by Clark’s feat after watching her wreak havoc with the Iowa Hawkeyes the past four years in college.

“I was playing the game. I don’t know what you want me to say… I’m honestly not surprised. I mean, I think if you guys have seen her do it for an accumulation of four years, I don’t think it would be too difficult at the pro level,” Mitchell said. 

Clark’s final stat line against the Liberty was 19 points, 13 assists, and 12 rebounds.

During her legendary career with the Hawkeyes, Clark averaged 28.4 points, 8.2 assists, and 7.1 rebounds per game. She ended her career with Iowa as the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer for men’s and women’s basketball, scoring 3,951 points from 2020-2024.

Clark has proved her game can translate to the professional level despite shooting 39.3% from the field. The rookie is averaging 16.1 points and 7.4 assists per game, leading all first-year players in both categories.

Mitchell and Clark have produced one of the best backcourt duos in the WNBA, as both players are headed to the league All-Star game on July 20 in Phoenix. The Ohio State alum has averaged 16.5 points in her seventh season with the Fever.
