It was announced by the Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday that star rookie Cameron Brink had suffered a torn ACL.

In their announcement, the team revealed that additional details will be provided at a later date, but the nature of this injury means Brink’s season is over.

In a devastating Instagram post following the news, Brink wrote the following:

“You never think it will happen to you. And despite all the hard work sometimes it does. This is hard to fathom but I know it will only make me stronger.

I will not be derailed and I will continue to love this life-I’m not defined by basketball, but it is something that I love deeply and I will work everyday to get back to it.

It’s not goodbye basketball it’s just a see you later. I’m always so thankful for your thoughts and prayers.”

Supportive comments have been pouring in from fans, fellow WNBA players, and other athletes around the sports world. One recent message for Brink came from fellow WNBA rookie Angel Reese, as the Chicago Sky forward shared a four-word reply to the devastating news:

Reese and Brink have a close relationship, as the two stars from the 2024 WNBA rookie class have a lot of respect for one another as competitors.

Brink was part of the Rookie of the Year race that includes Reese and Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark, but her impressive season has unfortunately been cut short.

As Brink mentioned in her post, this is not a goodbye, as she will bounce back.
