The 43-year-old singer was arrested on Monday night in Long Island’s Hamptons enclave of Sag Harbor. He is due in court on Tuesday.
Timberlake is currently on tour, with two shows planned in Chicago on June 20 and 21, followed by two shows at New York City’s Madison Square Garden.
The Sag Harbor Police Department confirmed to Newsweek on Tuesday morning that the star was in custody. Newsweek has contacted representatives of Timberlake via email for comment.
Several hours before his arrest, Timberlake shared a heartfelt message dedicated to the two children he shares with his actress wife Jessica Biel. The stars, who have been married since 2012, share sons Silas, 9, and Phineas, who turns 4 in July.
Taking to Instagram on Sunday, Timberlake shared two photos of himself with his children, adding in an accompanying caption that they were his “[two] greatest gifts.”
“I learn more about myself everyday just because you both chose me to be your Daddy,” he wrote. “I will always be there for you through your peaks and valleys… to lift you up and show you how high you can take this life and to pick you up when you fall. And, of course, to flood you with insufferable Dad-jokes all along the way. I love you both so much. Thank you for giving me my biggest purpose.”
Blade star Biel shared an Instagram post of her own dedicated to her husband on Sunday.
Alongside fun-filled photos of Timberlake with his children and wife, she wrote: “You’re so many things to so many people. But to us you are THE ROCK. The rock we climb on, we lean against. The rock that shades us from the sun. And when we recline on you, as we always do, hopefully our butts will keep you eternally grounded and warm.”
Concluding the heartfelt post, Biel added: “We LOVE YOU.”
The couple purchased a home in New York City’s Tribeca neighborhood in 2017 and they also have a residence in Blue Sky, Montana.

The 43-year-old was seen being led across the bridge from Sag Harbor police headquarters to the villages Justice Court on Tuesday by police officers.
A shell-shocked Timberlake looked straight ahead as he was led out by the police officers.
After a brief arraignment where he was banned from driving for a year in the state of New York, he was released without bail. The singer then emerged wearing a baseball cap.
Timberlake had been drinking with friends at The American Hotel bar in Sag Harbor on Monday night when he decided to get behind the wheel of his BMW X7 shortly before 12.30am.

Officers said in their report that they witnessed the pop star veering across the road before they intervened, and described finding him as ‘in an intoxicated condition’.

The father-of-two was also said to have been unsteady while on foot and ‘performed poorly’ on a field sobriety test, which he ultimately failed. After being arrested and taken to a local police station he also refused to take a breathalyzer test.
Timberlake was arraigned on one count of DWI and also cited for running a stop sign and for failure to stay in his lane. He is next in court on July 26 after being released without bail.
For refusing the breathalyzer test, Timberlake had his driving privileges in the state of New York suspended.
The pop star has two upcoming shows in Chicago later this week followed by back-to-back nights at Madison Square Garden in New York City next week.
A source told DailyMail.com: ‘Justin was out to dinner with friends and there were cop cars stationed outside the restaurant, like there are most nights.
‘They look for people who are leaving after midnight who might have been drinking.’
‘Justin left at 12:30AM and was pulled over as soon as he left. Nobody was hurt and there was no drama at the scene.’
