The 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony was expected to be a grand spectacle, but it has sparked controversy among some UFC stars who were offended by certain scenes during the event.

The ceremony began with a rendition of “The Last Supper” featuring drag queens, which surprised many viewers. UFC stars Colby Covington, Jake Shields, and Andrew Tate took to social media to express their disapproval of this segment.

Covington, a controversial UFC star, tweeted, “Never watching the Olympics ever again.” Shields, another MMA star, commented, “Why are a bunch of disgusting obese Trannys at the opening ceremony? We want to watch athletic excellence, not this.”

Tate, a self-proclaimed “Top G,” also criticized the ceremony, stating, “The Olympics is about hard work and discipline. This isn’t even topical. The West never misses a chance to prove they’re gay. Every cultural event. You name it. ‘We are SO GAY!’ They do not promote anything as hard as they promote homo sexuality.”

Despite the backlash from some UFC stars, the opening ceremony had many highlights. French judo champion Teddy Riner and three-time sprint gold medalist Marie-José Pérec lit the torch attached to a giant balloon that floated into the Paris night. Acrobats, performers, and a stunning light and laser show at the Eiffel Tower captivated the audience.

Team USA’s LeBron James and Coco Gauff also had a prominent role, leading their team as they cruised down the Seine River. Gauff, in particular, was elated to be a flagbearer, representing the United States with pride.

While the controversy surrounding the “The Last Supper” segment may continue, the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony showcased the grandeur and diversity of the event. The Games will continue to offer thrilling athletic competitions, and MMA fans, including Covington, Shields, and Tate, may find themselves drawn to the wrestling events as the Olympics progress.
