The future of the WNBA is looking bright, with Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese and Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark contributing immensely to the league’s popularity – as rookies.

The two rivals shared the court anew on Sunday, with Reese’s squad topping Clark and the Fever in an exhilarating matchup that ended in an 88-87 Chicago win at home.

Reese and Clark are more than just about a captivating rivalry, though. Even when viewed from an individual standpoint, each player can shine. During Sunday’s game, they both had sparkling performances that led to an extremely rare WNBA statistical phenomenon.

As pointed out by StatMamba, the Fever-Sky game was just the first WNBA contest since the turn of the millennium where a rookie from one team had a points-assists double-double while the other side had a points-rebounds double-double.

Clark did her part by scoring 17 points and adding 13 assists in a losing effort. She also had four steals and six rebounds in 40 minutes of action. Meanwhile, Reese exploded for 25 points and 16 boards to go with an assist in 36 minutes.

With their win, Reese and the Sky finally got the better of Indiana after two losses to the Fever this June. Reese and Clark can put on a show again in the same game on Aug. 30 when the Fever drop by Chicago for the fourth and final Indiana-Chicago showdown between in the 2024 WNBA regular season.
