Former WNBA All-Star Elizabeth Williams underwent a successful season-ending knee surgery just a few weeks ago. The Chicago Sky center suffered a torn meniscus during the 2024 season. As the 6-foot-3 center sits on the sideline through Chicago’s practices, she reportedly coaches rookies Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso.
According to Chicago Tribune beat writer Julia Poe, Williams has been a vocal leader for Reese and Cardoso, providing guidance between scrimmage plays.
The Sky secured both young stars in the 2024 WNBA draft, as Cardoso was selected with the No. 3 overall pick and Reese with the No. 7 pick.

Reese currently averages 14.1 points per game while leading the league with 11.9 rebounds per contest. Her fellow rookie, Cardoso, has averaged 8.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game through the Sky’s 8-12 record.
Cardoso has started in 11 of 14 games that she’s been available for the Sky, while Reese was jolted in the starting lineup early, serving as a starting forward for all 20 games of her WNBA rookie season.
The 2017 WNBA All-Star may be on the sideline, but she’s playing a vital role in developing the team’s young talent. During Williams’ 2024 season with the Sky, she averaged 10 points and seven rebounds per game.
