Caitlin Clark Named WNBA Rookie of the Month: A Historic Start with the Indiana Fever
The WNBA announced today that Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark has been honored as the WNBA Rookie of the Month for May.
Clark joins an elite group of players in franchise history who have received this accolade, following in the footsteps of Aliyah Boston, who earned the award in May, June, and August of 2023, and Natalie Achonwa, who was recognized in June 2015.
Through her first month of regular season games, Clark’s performance has been nothing short of extraordinary. Leading all 2024 rookies, she has set impressive statistics across multiple categories.
Clark has averaged 17.6 points per game, making 46 field goals, 24 three-point field goals, and 42 free throws. Her prowess extends beyond scoring, as she has also averaged 6.6 assists per game and logged 33.0 minutes per game, making her an integral part of the Fever’s lineup.
Among all players in the WNBA for May, Clark’s achievements are remarkable. She tied with Diana Taurasi for the most three-point field goals made and secured the second spot in total assists with 59.
Additionally, she was tied for second in free throws made, underscoring her versatility and offensive capabilities.
Clark’s historical milestones further underscore her exceptional entry into the league. She became the third player in WNBA history, alongside Candace Parker and Sabrina Ionescu, to accumulate over 100 points, 30 rebounds, and 30 assists in her first six career games.
This rare feat highlights her all-around game and her immediate impact on the court.
One of the standout moments in Clark’s early WNBA career came on May 28, when she recorded her first 30-point game against the Los Angeles Sparks.
This performance marked the 27th instance in Fever history where a player scored more than 30 points in a regular season game. Additionally, her 20-point debut on May 14 against Connecticut stands as the second highest point total by a Fever rookie in their first game, surpassed only by Tamika Catchings.
Clark’s playmaking abilities have also been on display, with her distributing five or more assists in eight consecutive games in May.
Her current streak extends to 10 games, showcasing her consistency and vision on the court.
The Indiana Fever, bolstered by Clark’s stellar performance, are looking forward to their upcoming game against the Washington Mystics on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
ET. Fans can catch the action live on ION, as Clark and her teammates aim to continue their strong start to the season.
Clark’s recognition as the WNBA Rookie of the Month is a testament to her hard work, skill, and the seamless transition she has made from college to professional basketball.
Her early success sets a promising tone for her career, and she is poised to become a key player for the Indiana Fever and a standout figure in the WNBA. As she continues to develop and showcase her talents, the basketball world eagerly anticipates what Caitlin Clark will achieve next.
