Magic Johnson spoke on Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese
Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese are the top-two favorites for WNBA Rookie of the Year, and that race intensified on Sunday.
Leading Chicago to their first win over Indiana this season, Reese finished with 25 points and 16 rebounds, including several big plays in the clutch.
While Clark also played well, finishing with 17 points, 13 assists, and 6 rebounds, Reese was certainly player of the game. As previously mentioned, this matchup only intensified the debate between these two star rookies.
In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), NBA legend Magic Johnson revealed his opinion on Clark and Reese:
Comparing Clark and Reese to himself and Larry Bird, Johnson highlighted the viewership these two WNBA stars are driving. While the debate between Clark and Reese is contentious, their overall impact on women’s basketball cannot be denied.
Following the second Fever vs. Sky game this season, the WNBA announced some incredible viewership numbers that affirm what Johnson is pointing out:
Speaking recently on this dynamic, Clark pointed out that while many fans tune it to watch herself and Reese battle, this increased viewership also leads to new eyes on their teammates.
Both Indiana and Chicago have talented players surrounding their star rookies, and Clark believes fans will come back to watch them as well, even if they initially tuned in for the star rookie battle.
This all plays into what Johnson is describing, and it’s something that should not get lost in the Clark vs. Reese debates.
