Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon’s motivational message to Angel Reese ahead of historic matches

Despite the Chicago Sky losing four straight before their game against the Dallas Wings on Thursday, they looked like one of the league’s best teams during Thursday’s win.

Rookie Angel Reese was the spark plug for Chicago on both ends of the court. Her energy and effort has proven to be a major difference maker for Teresa Weatherspoon’s squad.

Reese also made WNBA history on Thursday, becoming the first rookie with seven consecutive double-doubles in a season.

And after the game, Reese revealed an emotional message that Weatherspoon relayed to her after getting drafted.

“It was a blessing I dropped to seventh, (putting me) with these amazing teammates and amazing coaches,” Reese said after the game.

“Being able to have a coach that told me, ‘Don’t worry about where you were drafted, what number you dropped to.’ She told me just believe in myself. Surprise yourself before you surprise others,” Reese said about past conversations she has had with Weatherspoon.

Clearly this vote of confidence from her head coach has inspired Reese to become one of the league’s most valuable players, both on and off the court.

Now Chicago will look to produce a winning streak against the Indiana Fever on Sunday.
